NetEnt did what many of us were doing this Christmas… scrambling to get gifts at the very last minute! They released a new slot just before the festivities set in – FlowersTM Christmas Edition. It’s the all-time favourite slot that we’ve loved for years, except that its characters are dressed up in Santa hats and slathered in snow. The festive version incorporates the same features that made Flowers popular, including the Double symbols and Stacked Wilds. Both of these symbols drastically improve your chances for winning!

Flowers Christmas Edition is a 5 reel, 30 payline slot. This version of the game features the same paytable as the original Flowers game. There are four different types of flowers, a couple of alphabets and the same feature symbols; each combination pays out the same amount. The maximum payout is 75,000 coins in a single spin!
The number of paylines are fixed at 30 for every spin. I always feel like 30 paylines is the sweet spot for slots. If slots have too many paylines, each spin would cost a bomb and each win barely covers the cost of the spin. Too few paylines and the game progresses a little too slowly. 30 paylines feels just about right and gives the slot a medium variance.
Similar to other Net Ent slots, you’ll select the size of each wager by toggling the bet level and coin value per spin. It’s not as straightforward as increasing the amount by 10p, but it allows NetEnts games to transcend borders and currencies. Anyway, the smallest bet would cost 30p whereas the maximum bet costs £75. It’s a huge range of bet sizes that suits players of all budgets.

Both Flowers and Flowers Christmas Edition have a really cool feature called Doubles Symbols. These double symbols are those pairs of flowers that grow in a same flowerbox. These symbols act as two symbols when they form winning paylines. It’s a wonderful feature which increases the size of your prizes!
If you’re extra lucky, you can even have up to 10 matching symbols in a single payline. It’s not just the Flowers that are doubled. You can also find double Free Spin symbols.
Another symbol to look out for are the Free Spin symbols. If three or more of these symbols appear anywhere on the reels, you’ll trigger up to 30 free spins. These free spin rounds are pimped out! First, all wins during these rounds are immediately multiplied. The multiplier ranges from 2 to 10 times, depending on the number of free spin symbols that triggered the round.
Then, there are also Stacked Wild symbols. The Santa hat-wearing Wild symbol often appears across an entire column. Of course, this increases your chances of winning too.

It’s quite adorable how NetEnt decorated the slot. There’s snow everywhere – presumably fake snow, since the flowers are still in full-bloom. There are also Christmas lights and coloured baubles strung up in the borders of the reels. I especially love how the letters have all been baked into gingerbread! Even the background music has been shaken up to match December’s mood.
I’m glad that this festive slot packs as much punch as the regular slots. Most festive slots rely on holiday decoration to entertain players and are thin on the content. No new game mechanics, very basic payout structure. After all, why should slot developers invest too much cash on a slot game that lasts a little over a month, tops? NetEnt managed to balance festivities with actual fun by repurposing a popular slot.
After January starts and everyone returns to work, it’s likely that this slot will “expire” and the festive theme will become stale. Casinos will probably pack them up and store them in their virtual basements until the next festive season. So, before then, you had better pay the game a visit! You’ll definitely walk away with extra holiday cash – with all those Double Symbols and pimped-out free spin rounds. You wouldn’t want to miss out!
