Getting a line in Happy Halloween
Free Spin tutorial menu
Lining up 3 Scatter symbols to receive 10 free spins
Happy Halloween functions like many standard slots. It consists of 5 reels, comprised of an above average, 50 paylines.
Each reel is made up of varying symbols with various effects. These are comprised of:
- Regular Face symbols (Ghost, Mummy, Vampire, Strawberry, Frankenstein e.t.c.) – Have varying payouts when matched along a payline
- Scatter symbol (Witch) – When 3 matched in a row, pay 4x the total bet and start Free Spin mode
- Wild symbol (Pumpkin) – Substitutes for all symbols aside from Scatters
As usual, the player spins the reels to try and line up paylines of symbols to win money. Each symbol has a different payout, which is explained in the slots built in paytable. Wild symbols can also be used to substitute symbols to connect matching symbols that are dispersed along paylines.
Scatter Symbols & Free Spins
When 3 Scatter symbols are lined up in Happy Halloween, two things happen:
- The player is given a 4x multiplier on their total bet
- The player gains 10 free spins
Free Spins mode is self explanatory. The player is given 10 free spins, during which all their winnings are totalled up into one final payout. Though this isn’t the end of the story when it comes to this mode.
The player may spin more Scatter symbols during free spin mode, giving them 10 further free spins on top of their current free spin amount. That way, you’re able to stack free spins and increase your final winnings massively.
The free spin mode also greatly introduces the number of Wild symbols involved in the game. Two additional Wild symbols are added to reels 2,3,4 and 5. With 8 additional Wild symbols in play, every spin has a greater chance of matching far more symbols together, granting you huge wins.
Free spins mode has been designed in a way to create exponential combos and multipliers. When it all comes together, free spin mode can be a very satisfying mode indeed. They are rare however, since the Scatter symbols only appear on the first three reels. Since you have to match them on these reels in order to access the mode, this can lead to close to a hundred spins before Free Spin mode comes up.
In terms of gameplay features, Happy Halloween is a very streamlined game. It has its Free Spin mode and Scatter symbols, but that’s as far as it goes in terms of actual player interaction. There is one bonus card game which comes up very rarely upon large wins.
Bonus Card Game
When the player receives a large win, they are offered the choice of either collecting or gambling their win.
By collecting, the player receives their winnings straight away. However, if you choose to gamble the money, then you are presented with an upturned card and six guessing options.
The player can either make a choice of guessing the colour of the upturned card, or the suite of the upturned card.
Since the suite has a 1 in 4 chance of being correct, it will quadruple your win, while the colour of the card doubles your win. Once you’ve chosen, the card is revealed and you then return to the game, either with a multiplied win or nothing at all.
Strangely enough, the more interesting features are actually hidden away in the autoplay menu.
Happy Halloween features an interesting addition to autoplay. Not only can you select how many spins you want to do, but you can also select parameters for when autoplay should stop outside of simply number of spins. This can be on any win or when the player earns free spins.
Autoplay can also be stopped at more specific points. You can set autoplay to end once a single win exceeds a certain amount, if your balance increases by a certain amount, or if your balance decreases by a certain amount.
All of these amounts can be personally typed into the system. There’s no awkward drop down lists. You simply select when you want autoplay to stop and it will do so. Autoplay has never been completely automatic since the player has always needed to monitor it closely anyway. You may as well be clicking spin yourself most of the time.
Now there’s no need to sit there and watch every spin. You can comfortably walk away for a moment to do other things, while your spins go through, completely under your restrictions.
Happy Halloween is a great working slot. It’s clearly had a lot of care put into to how it works. Not once did it stumble on the mobile or desktop versions, working very well on middling mobile hardware.
We’re uncertain how well it works on lower spec mobile platforms, but since there aren’t that many fancy effects, we can’t imagine this will be particularly incompatible with lower budget mobiles. If your phone doesn’t work with most modern slots, then it probably won’t work here. But if it’s generally competent, it shouldn’t have trouble with Happy Halloween.
Happy Halloween is an example of quality over quantity. There’s no innovation here and aside from some very swift auto betting features, there’s little here in terms of gameplay tweaks.
What is here though, is expertly designed. The Halloween theme is very well done, with the music and artwork being especially pleasant to spend time in the company of. The free spin mode, although not original, is very nicely designed to create an exciting and satisfying experience. Having your free spins and wild symbols produce massive winnings is an incredibly enjoyable gambling experience, albeit a rare one.
If you’re looking for a solid slot this Halloween, we’d happily recommend Happy Halloween. It’s certainly had a lot of care put into it and is a demonstration of how competent Play ‘N Go are at their job of bringing memorable slot games.
But if you’re looking for an original experience, then we’d suggest going somewhere else. There simply isn’t anything here that we haven’t seen before; as well made as it is.Back to Top
