Review: Titans of the Sun Hyperion by Microgaming

Titans of the Sun Feature ImageIt is said that men are bigger risk takers than women and hence, approach gambling and mobile slots differently. As a general rule, men prefer slots with higher volatility while women prefer steady wins.

To address both markets, Microgaming has just released two Titans of the Sun slot games – Hyperion and Theia. Both are set in ancient Greece, in the midst of artfully drawn temples and bright blue skies. Hyperion is fronted by a hunky man draped in Grecian sheets, while Theia is a sexy beach babe with a mesmerizing stare. Is one better than the other?

Gameplay

Both slot games feature 5 reels and 3 rows, with 15 paylines each. The bet levels for both games are similar as well – the minimum bet is 15p and the maximum bet is £30 per spin. Both slots are relatively volatile. However, the Hyperion version offers larger wins. You can win up to 5,000 times, which is 1,000 times more than Theia’s version.

After playing both games for 20 minutes each, I concluded that Hyperion features more frequent wins in the base game. I’d say that the Hyperion version of Titans of the Sun is slightly more bankroll friendly in the long run. However, the bonus features in Theia have a certain magnetic pull about them…

Features

I loved the Mystery Symbol feature, which you can find in both versions. When they appear, all Mystery symbols change into the same symbol at once. These symbols are stacked one atop each other during the base game, increasing your chances of winning. During free spins mode, these Mystery symbols can also transform into wild symbols too. You know what happens when there are many symbols of the same kind in a slot game – you win cash!

Titans of the Sun Wild Feature

If you get three or more silhoette symbols – in any position on the reels – you’ll trigger 15 free spins and activate the Free Spins mode. It is in the Free Spins Mode that Theia shines. Theia multiplies all wins in the free spins mode by 2 times. This means that you can potentially double every win that you make in 15 rounds, all for free!

Titans of the Sun Silhoette Feature

Another frequent occurrence in Titans of the Sun is the Mega Symbol feature. The Mega Symbol expands and fills up few positions at once. One Mega Symbol takes up loads of real estate on the reels and can become part of multiple winning paylines at the same time. This feature is relatively rare in the slots market, which is a shame. It is a real joy when Mega Symbols appear!

Performance

Besides the two good-looking main characters, the designers have added a fiery phoenix and glittering unicorn. These symbols are the high-value symbols, and every win that includes them is accompanied by very fancy animation and grand music. The animation that plays when Mystery symbols transform is another good one. The game also runs well on both mobiles and desktops. It did not take too long to load and did not require huge amounts of RAM to run.

Is two better than one?

Not many software developers, product designers or companies do male and female versions right. It’s not pink or blue, or hard lines versus soft curves. Instead, it is the masculinity and femininity that must be portrayed. The Titans of the Sun slots does this well.

The manly Hyperion offers bigger risks in return for bigger risks (5,000x maximum win compared to 4,000x in Theia). The female counterpart, Theia awards wins more steadily, with a 2x multiplier on all wins during Free Spins. I feel as though these slight modifications are spot-on in addressing men and women’s different playing styles.

Conclusion

Droid Slots' Stamp of ApprovalMicrogaming’s games are a definite hit amongst UK casino players. They rarely produce games that aren’t entertaining or profitable. Indeed, both versions of Titans of the Sun make a solid gaming session for any player, male or female.

I particularly loved the Mega Symbol and Mystery Symbol features, which are great twists to the usual slot game. And if you’re wondering which version to play, I’d say, go with either!
