The retro arcade resurgence of 2015 started way back in June when NetEnt released Neon Staxx – a slot that could have doubled as a piece of 1980s Tron-inspired artwork. This masterpiece was shortly followed by Sparks – a similarly neon-based (but less satisfying) alternative in July. Fast forward a couple of months to september and iSoftBet are the newest neon kids on the block. Say hello to Neon Reels.
Preview: At a Glance
Neon Reels has been a hotly anticipated new slot for a while now after the teaser trailer went live. The slot certainly looks like it could live up to the hype too.
The three by five reel layout features classic fruity symbols which have been reworked into a slick neon style, and the reels themselves spin around a 3D, cylindrical axis as in a brick and mortar slot. The animation is sumptuous – winning symbols light up and jump briefly off the reels. If you hit two scatter symbols the reels themselves will turn seemingly out towards you as the music gears up to a big win.
- Neon Reels is actually a progressive slot machine and the current size of the prize is displayed on the main screen, being worth more than a pretty penny. Five jackpot symbols are needed on an active line when playing the max bet in order to win the progressive jackpot.
- Smaller wins can be obtained with the help of the wild symbol that can substitute for regular icons, and scatters are used to trigger free spins when three or more appear on the screen. During free spins, the wild symbols will multiply the win they create by up to 8 times.
- Last but not least are the diamond symbols which can trigger two re-spins if two appear on the first reel at the same time. During these rounds, the first reel is frozen so that it can provide a better chance at getting a combination with the higher paying symbol.
