Zoom is the newest slot from Thunderkick and it offers a style of play that we’ve only seen a few times until now. Players who keep up with slots, may remember NetEnt’s Spinata Grande, with its key feature being colossal symbols, which were larger symbols that took up several places on the reels.
With a similar mechanic, Zoom has enough to make itself stand out from the crowd. Let’s take a look at the tweaks Zoom makes to the giant symbol formula and see if it does enough to make this a feature that we want to see more from in the future.
Zoom Slot Feature Overview
This what to look forward to when Zoom releases:
- 6×4 reel slot with 64 paylines
- Scatter activated massive and super massive symbols
- Free re-spin feature
- 96.2% RTP
- 1,500x total bet jackpot
- £0.10 – £100 bet range
Massive Symbols & Re-Spins
Zoom is all about the size of its symbols, hosting two different types of larger symbols. The first symbol type is massive symbols, which take up a 2×2 area of the reel. The second are super massive symbols which take up an ridiculous 4×4 area of the reels.
Unlike Spinata Grande, these big symbols aren’t part of the regular base game. Players must spin zoom symbols, which are the scatter symbols of the slot, in order to unlock these bigger symbols. The number and position of zoom symbols spun, will govern which symbol size you unlock.
You’ll notice the slot’s face is split into six grids of 2×2. Whenever you spin a zoom symbol within one of these grids, then that grid will transform into a massive symbol. For every massive symbol spun, you get a re-spin. That re-spin is completely free and gives you another chance to win with your massive symbol.
Every time you spin a massive symbol, you also get a further re-spin, with a possible six re-spins in total, up until the point where the slot is packed with massive symbols and you can no longer spin any further zoom scatters.
Massive symbols will always be expanded versions of the regular symbols. The type of massive symbol you get is randomised and therefore, the amount you can win on it will also be random, since every symbol is worth a different amount based on its likelihood of turning up.
Super Massive Symbols & Re-Spins
Super massive symbols follow similar rules, but are a different beast entirely when it comes to how you unlock them and your re-spins. Super massive symbols take up a 4×2 area of the reels and are only unlocked by spinning 4 zoom symbols in adjacent grids to one another.
That makes massive symbols far rarer to spin and since there isn’t enough room to spin a new super massive symbol, you can only spin one by itself. Because super massive symbols take up over 3 places on the reels, they will automatically create a line by themselves and there is still room for 2 further massive symbols on the reels, so you can potentially get up to 3 re-spins with it present.
Play Zoom – Out July 20th
Zoom may have only just been announced, but its release date is imminent. The next step we’re looking forward to is some actual footage of Zoom in action to see if the end product actually satisfies the promises of its premise.
We’re certainly intrigued by its new take on colossal symbols, by unlocking them as a bonus and then adding re-spins to the whole affair. Zoom is spinning a lot of plates, but if it manages to pull it off, we could be in for a treat. Zoom is available to play at Casumo from July 20th.
