UKGC Launches Open Crime Prevention Consultation For The Gambling Industry

ukgc publicThe UKGC has widened the conversation on gambling regulation by opening up the platform to leaders in the industry, as well as the public.

The move comes about as a bid to improve the prevention of crime in the gambling industry. The main fear is emerging mobile casinos and other forms of gambling being used for money laundering and fronts for criminal activity.

The UKGC are now openly asking that both members of the industry and the public contact them directly with thoughts and information relating to crime prevention methods in the gambling industry.

UKGC Reaching Out

The more varied and expansive the gambling industry and the forms it manifests in become, the harder it becomes to regulate.

“Advances in technology and changes in consumer preference are posing new challenges to keeping crime out of gambling, but also offering new solutions to the problems,” a spokesperson from UKGC explained when asked about the program.

The UKGC is asking that both licencees and the public get involved.  They ask that anyone who wants should contact them with their own thoughts on the matter to “share their own experience and good practices in order to help keep gambling crime free.”

A Continuing Trend

The UKGC has had a continued concern for gambling regulations as of late. Only a few months ago they restricted certain rules on gambling advertising and then threatened increased regulation if the industry didn’t increase its promotion of responcasino crimesible gambling.

This concern about crime in the industry isn’t completely unfounded following the recent warning over a widespread illegal online scratchcard scheme .

Having reached out to the industry, the UKGC appears to be involving even more people by including public debate in the matter. It’ll be interesting to see how their neighbourhood watch of the gambling industry turns out. But if it leads to a safer gambling environment for everyone, then who are we to complain about that.

Do you know the rules which protect you from nefarious casinos, or where to go if you think they’re being bent or broken? Mobile casinos are governed by tons of regulations – both those which relate to gambling as a whole and those which are specific to egaming – and they dictate everything from where and how a casino can advertise, to how it should be looking after the money you deposit there. In our regulations section, we look at all the laws and rules which casinos should be abiding by and offer you advice on how to keep yourself safe. This means that not only will we tell you about the bodies you can appeal to if you think a casino has treated you unfairly, or acted outside the rules, but also help you learn to spot the indicators that a certain casino may not be the safest place to park your money.
