Monopoly Once Around Deluxe is set up like a regular slot game. There are 5 reels and 15 fixed paylines. You’ll be playing with real cash here – not fake Monopoly money – and each spin costs between 15p and £30. After you choose your wager, you can flip through the paytable to view exactly how much you stand to win.
The reels are decked out with classic Monopoly imagery. There’s the metal tokens – a boot, a dog and a car; these are the highest value symbols on the board that can pay out up to 2,000 times your wager. Other symbols include the Chance and Community Chest cards, utilities like train stations and waterworks and the Go! space. There’s Mr Monopoly in his top hat as a Wild symbol, which substitutes for all symbols except the bonus and scatter symbols. It’s a nostalgic trip.
I must warn you to be careful with this game – the return to player percentage is relatively low at 92.03% (base game) and 94% (side bets). Most slot games in the market offer a RTP between 94-97%. While this number shouldn’t put you off from playing, you must keep one eye on your balance at all times.

The base game offers fairly frequent wins, but it’s during the bonus game where you’ll earn the big bucks. The bonus game is triggered with three or more Bonus symbols; this is the symbol of Mr Monopoly holding a pair of dice. Once triggered, the slot reels is replaced with the classic board game. You’ll get to pick a token and move it around the board, just like you would in the original Monopoly board game. There is a pair of virtual dice which tells you how many spaces to move.
The gambling element comes in during the purchase of houses and hotels. You’ll place a sidebet by purchasing houses. The cost of your bet varies by property – for example, a house on Euston Road costs 75p and pays out up to 12 times that! Houses on Oxford Street and Mayfair are most expensive at £3 each, but you could win up to £36. Excellent ROI, in my opinion. My personal strategy was to spread out my bets and purchase one house each on multiple properties. What would you do different?
Then, you’ll watch your riches roll in when you land on your built-up properties. True to the property development storyline, you’ll pick up rent cheques! Five cheques will appear on the screen and you’ll choose one. These rent cheques range from 3 to a whopping 180 times the total side bet amount. Unlike the original, you won’t lose your riches when you land on super tax or jail!
The Monopoly game isn’t complete without the Chance and Community Chest features. These cards contain wonderful little surprises. You could pick up a 15 to 100x multiplier; or collect one of those property cards. My personal favourite Chance card is the “Advance straight to Go”, as this triggers the Twice Around Deluxe Bonus round. The Twice Around game plays out in the same way as the first round, except that all award payouts are doubled!
The bonus game finally ends when you pass the Go square. Fret not, I triggered the game once every 20 spins or so.

The game is simply brilliant! They’ve captured every little detail that makes Monopoly what it is – from the property deed cards to the tokens to move around the board; from the cheery Mr Monopoly to the guy in Jail. The background music complimented the entire experience and the graphics quality is top notch. One quick tip though: I like to press “Spin” quickly after the last spin is complete. The animation celebrating every win goes on for quite a while and I’d rather get on with it!
The Domination of Monopoly
Did you know that Monopoly was created way back in 1935? We’ve all played the board game at least once; Hasbro claims that over 500 million people have played Monopoly. Of course, the slot industry eats this stuff up. Branded games are all the rage. The Monopoly slot machine by WMS is a smash hit in land-based casinos and multiple versions have popped up online. EA has produced Monopoly Slots for Android – players don’t wager real money but can purchase in-app coins – while IGT created Monopoly Plus. However, this new Monopoly Once Around Deluxe version by Williams Interactive is the first one that actually includes a board game feature!
I was completely engrossed in the Monopoly Once Around Deluxe slot game for a good 20 minutes. There was so much to explore and love, especially the part where you get to buy houses and place side bets. You won’t actually earn enough cash to become a real-life property mogul, but you’ll increase your starting balance by at least 20%. Although the the reported RTP is lower than most slot games, I feel like the game’s features makes up for it. Call it nostalgia or novelty, I really enjoyed this slot game.
