So Microgaming is at it again. Instead of just releasing one or two games this month, the development powerhouse has decided to put out a staggering seven new titles for May. Unfortunately, some unenlightened designers still don’t understand how the merits of mobile massively outweigh those of desktop, so only four of the games are going to be available to players on the go. I’m going to do what we do best here at Droid Slots and only take these mobile games seriously (aka as it should be).
The first three games on this list are actually mobile releases of already existing online slots, and Liquid Gold is the first of those three. As the name suggests, Liquid Gold is like playing on old video slot tropes. While the lacklustre flowing gold effects seem a little tawdry to our more modern and refined tastes, you have to remember that this really isn’t a new slot – it was originally made to appeal to players a couple of years ago, when expectations were much lower.
Should Microgaming have developed a brand new game, rather than recycling an unappealing old one? Perhaps. But with the other two mobile games which are being made available this month, it’s not exactly like there’s a shortage of things to play. Given that the slot does boast loads of features and the chance to get massive wins, I say why not?
Break Away and Cool Wolf
Despite the different names, you shouldn’t be fooled by these slots – they’re just reskins of the same game! This means two things: firstly, if you want to play either of them, you simply need to decide which theme works for you, and secondly, it’s really no surprise that Microgaming has decided to make them both mobile at the same time – it will have taken no extra resources to mobile optimise both as it would for one!
Don’t worry, Cool Wolf isn’t another one of those bloody, wolf-themed slots, but instead harks back to the 1950s American high school culture (think Grease), replete with jocks, nerds, cheerleaders and Cadillacs. Break Away borrows exactly the same game mechanics, but this time teams it with a hockey theme (replace the Cadillacs with skates and the nerds with pucks). Both games are kinda fun, but I wouldn’t waste my time playing both of them.
Now we get to an actual, bonafide, genuinely new game which you can play on your mobile. What a bloody treat! The real draw of The Ariana are the graphics. Microgaming has spared no expense to ensure that this underwater adventure is a real feast for the eyes and the ears… and if you’re lucky, the wallet too. But like the very best Microgaming slots, it’s not just about the way this game looks and sounds that’s important.
The 5 reels and 25 paylines are host to all kinds of fun features, from stacked symbols and wilds, to free spins and bonus rounds. You can get up to £30,000 from a single spin on this game – so although it isn’t technically a jackpot slot, you’re not going to be disappointed if you win the max amount possible. The Ariana is the one to keep your eye out for this month, and will be hosted at most good Microgaming sites.
