Its no secret that NetEnt have established themselves as a powerhouse of mobile slot game development over the years, and this dominance looks set to continue in June as they seek to follow the success of Stickers Touch with a new title which I will get to in due course hold tight…
I say hold tight because NetEnt aren't the only big kid on the block – Microgaming are set to release three new titles in June, which in terms of sheer numbers blows NetEnt out of the water. The real question is which of these software providers is likely to come out on top? Its NetEnt vs Microgaming, let battle commence!
NetEnt's Neon Staxx
I think I should start by saying straight off the bat that I'm very excited for NetEnt to drop Neon Staxx, which is set for release on the 24th of June (we've got a ways to go yet) and will become instantly available to play for fun or real money at all participating NetEnt casinos. This means its highly likely a lot of our top twenty casinos will be offering the game in due course.

Time to jump in the Delorean and transport yourself back to the neon-drenched nostalgia of the 1980's. NetEnt have captured their vision for this project perfectly with a sumptuous teaser poster boasting a pink and blue neon colour-scheme which is reminiscent of Anoraak's ‘Night-drive With You' album cover. Its 80s mad by the looks of things.
If the poster promises a lot then the game itself would certainly appear to live up to the hype. The soundtrack is a perfect tribute to the synth-led pop music which abounded back then, the reels are set back like an old school arcade game and the graphics and artwork look seamless. But its not just a looker…
There are 5 reels, 4 symbols high and NetEnt are boasting 40 paylines with this beauty. All symbols appear stacked on all reels. Get 3 or more scatter symbols anywhere to start the free spins feature – before free spins start, one random symbol will act as a super stacked symbol. This symbol will appear as extra long stacked symbols during free spins. Even wild symbols can become super stacked. Is it June 24th yet? Don't take my word for it though, take a look at the teaser video below.
Microgaming's Hound Hotel Slot
Microgaming seem to be going into June expecting it to rain cats and dogs (that might be funnier once you've seen their next game preview – but probably not). The expected release date for Hound Hotel Slot is June 3rd, which means you're not going to have to wait around all month with nothing new to play before NetEnt release Neon Staxx.

My first impressions of Hound Hotel Slot is that this is a fun, light-hearted and comedic slot with cutely detailed graphics and a funky little soundtrack to go along with it.
Hound Hotel is a 5×3 reel, 25 payline slot, which includes a few nice little features such as dashing wilds. The bonus round is triggered by a three or more scatter symbols, which unlock the Hound Hotel minigame. The minigame involves choosing a door on each of the hotel's three floors to deliver room service to- behind which are various hotel residents, aka dogs. Each character has a corresponding reward.
The rewards consist of five wild features such as expanding wilds and super stacked wilds. On the next floor there are five different multiplier prizes (maximum 6x multiplier) and then finally up to 30 free spins on the top floor! Not bad for a working dog. This slot isn't a game-changer but its great fun and there's plenty going on to keep you interested. Check out the footage below to see if this is a slot for you.
Microgaming's Kitty Cabana
Okay the raining cats and dogs thing might fit a little better now, but maybe the moment has passed. But you guessed it- all the cat lovers out there raging over the injustice of a dog-related slots launch can rest easy because Microgaming are also set to launch Kitty Cabana.
I wont repeat myself because the games are nearly identical but for the substitution of dogs with cats and some slightly different wild features. Its cute, fun and contains all the bonus features included in the hound hotel. Very astute business from Microgaming. Check out the footage in the video below if you'd like to get a feel for it.
Microgaming's Pistoleras Slot
“The Wild West's Most Wanted are in Town” reads the chalkboard in the Pistoleras Slot tavern. And as it turns out the Wild West's most wanted are no longer the gritty lone-ranger cowboys found in Clint Eastwood films, but rather scantily-clad animated women boasting shotguns, pistols and a large amount of ammo.

Pistoleras is the third big release set for early June from Microgaming, with a distinct thematic move away from high-society animals towards the Wild West.
Pistoleras also offers a 5×3 reel layout and 25 paylines. There are lots of stacked symbols present in the base game for the high-paying symbols.
The bonus round when triggered can grant up to 25 free spins and can be re-triggered (couldn't help it – sorry) in the free spins feature. In this bonus round all wins are tripled with a 3x multiplier.
There is an additional feature triggered by landing three loot bag scatters on reels three, four or five triggering the Saloon Bonus minigame. In the Saloon Bonus you get to pick from nine targets: if you matched three Pistoleras symbols you will be awarded a corresponding prize. Check out the game play in the video below!
So there's plenty to look forward to in terms of new games in June, but who comes out on top? It has to be said that there's still quite a wait until Neon Staxx becomes available to play, which means in the meantime you have plenty of time to check out Microgaming's offerings and see if any of them take your fancy.
Quantity doesn't necessarily beat quality though and I'm certain Neon Staxx is going to be an instant-hit, particularly when considering the success of Thunderkick's retro Arcader. If you can't wait until June for these games to become playable check out Stickers Touch in the meantime.
