With John Lewis and Sainbury's are waging war against one another via the medium of Christmas adverts, it seems fitting that the iGaming industry should get in on the squabbling too. Play'n Go have already shown their hand with the Xmas Joker, NetEnt have launched some old games with Christmas skins, and now Microgaming are set to enter the fray with Happy Holidays – one of the most superbly mundane slot titles ever conceived.
At a Glance
So despite releasing a teaser video with such weirdly drawn children that I lost sleep, the Happy Holidays slot actually looks pretty cool.
Christmas symbols like stockings, gingerbread houses and roast turkeys sit on a 3×5 reel layout with 243 ways to win.
There are also more creepily drawn children doing things like riding a sled and sitting on Santa's lap.
Despite this the game is well animated and set to a very festive soundtrack – this genuinely feels like a game that time and effort has gone in to and that makes me happy.
The Happy Holidays tile is wild, and hitting three scatter symbols will trigger a special free spins feature which I will discuss in greater depth later.
- Free Spins: Okay, still with us? Good. Three scatter symbols trigger the free spins feature, and when this happens an additional row of reels is added to make a 4×5 layout and give you 1024 ways to win! You also get ten free spins, cool.
Snowman: If the snowman lands on the reels during the free spins mode he will transform to any symbol to give the biggest win possible.
- Frosty Feature: If you hit a non-winning spin you might just win anyway, as this gives you a chance of activating the frosty feature. In this feature every high symbol provides a cash payout.
Oh, and… Be sure to check out the creepy trailer:
