One of the biggest casino software developers on the market, Playtech has many different kinds of games under their belt. Not only do they do slots, but they also make casino games, sports betting, online bingo and all kinds of lotteries too. But they are best known for their slots as they all have a wide variety of themes. One of those themes is a property they have acquired and kept for some years now, that being Marvel superheroes.
So basically, if you see a mobile slot that has Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, Spider-Man or the Hulk, it more than likely belongs to Playtech. Not for much longer, however, as the company has recently announced that, by the end of March, it will have relinquished its license to make and distribute Marvel slots for good.
Why Is This Happening?
If you love Marvel's superheroes as much as we do, you're probably sorely disappointed by this news. Not only would Playtech be ridding itself of the ability to make more slots out of our favourite comic book characters but it would be purging every website that holds its content of the ones they've already made. So, basically, no more Marvel.
But why is this happening? What madness has gripped Playtech to make them want to do this? Basically, it's a matter of their license expiring. Because this is all copyrighted content, anyone seeking to use their characters needs permission from Marvel to do so. Companies like Playtech can ‘lease' their characters for a certain amount of time until said period has expired.
So this is not totally unexpected. But you may now be wondering: “Why doesn't Playtech just renew their license?” One word: Disney. That's right — Disney wants to take Marvel in a more ‘family friendly' direction and since gambling is for over 18's, it would ruin Disney's image slightly as a ‘family-friendly' mega-corporation.
At the same time, however, they seem to forget that most people who see and enjoy their Marvel films are… well, adults. But since they own Marvel now, and have done since 2009, they will ultimately have the final say in everything.
Which Content Will Be Removed?
Basically all of it. Yep. Every single Marvel character that Playtech has acquired the license for will literally disappear on 31st March on every site that Playtech operates on. No exceptions. No excuses. God forbid if you ever grew fond of a slot with an Avenger on it because within four days, it'll be gone.
But don't feel too sad. If you're still into heroes, Playtech have extended their licence with Warner Bros. to continue making more DC-related content: Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman… All that good stuff! So although we'll be sad to see Marvel go, we'll still have our good old DC heroes to fall back on.
Playtech are also pushing their epic ‘Age of the Gods' slot titles in an attempt to substitute their Marvel content. This only makes sense as many consider superheroes to be the modern day equivalent of the heroes and demi-gods of Greek myth. And those characters don't belong to anyone so they'll be no need for any licensing agreements there.
Where Can I Play It Before It’s All Gone?
Since we only have four days left for all Marvel fans to enjoy their favourite Marvel slots, you can play them wherever Playtech has published their content. Mansion casino, for instance, is a fine example of a casino that has grandeur. With a £5,000 welcome bonus, it's easy to see why! Visit today and you could play your favourite Marvel slots until they're gone.
Alternatively, you can go to other mainstream websites like Casino.com or bet365 where, along with Marvel slots, they have sports betting, casino games and a myriad of promotion schemes to keep you interested. With either casino, you'll never be bored as it has enough Playtech material to keep you satisfied for hours.
We strongly encourage you to enjoy these Marvel slots while they're still around. After all, it could be something you'll tell your grandchildren one day. Okay, maybe not, but still… It's rare for an online slot series to be removed entirely from the internet (and therefore existence) and who else would be able to say they were the last to play them?
