Review: Mega Moolah Mobile Slot by Microgaming

Mega Moolah by Microgaming has long been known as The Millionaire Maker, a fitting name for the world’s hottest online jackpot. The game has been producing 6-figure jackpot winners since 2008, with the latest winner Jorge S taking home €2.38 million. In fact, you must check out the record of these lucky winners on the game’s official website.

I figured that it is time to look at this game in detail – is there more to it than the large jackpot? Are the animals cheesy? Most importantly, how many “small” three-figure winners does it produce?

Gameplay

The game is quite regular – 5 reels, 25 paylines and small wagers from 1p to £6.25. Let’s discuss an ordinary game session for a not-spectacularly lucky bloke. The game is a Low Volatility Slot. This allowed me to hit smaller wins once in every 2-5 spins, which is not too bad at all! These small wins multiply your wagers by 2-10 times.

There’s an attractive Free Spin Mode, during which any wins are TRIPLED! That’s plenty for a regular player like me. This is easily triggered by hitting 3 Scatter Monkeys; additional Free Spins can be retriggered if you’re lucky enough to hit more Free Spins during your Free Spins mode/ Free-Spin-ception.

I liked this little treat the most – the Wild Lion Symbol doubles a players win when substituting for a regular symbol to complete a winning payline. As if Wild Symbols weren’t good enough!

Features- Jackpot Wheel Spin

Players flock to Mega Moolah in droves because of its legendary jackpots. There are four Progressive Jackpots – Mega, Major, Minor and Mini; similar Playtech’s Age of the Gods Slots Collection. Did you know that the Mega jackpot is reset to a minimum of one million once it is won? That fact is hard to beat. It also grows extraordinarily quickly by £200,000 each month, which is possible because:

  1. The progressive jackpot is tied to 4 other slot games, including The Dark Knight Rises. If you’re playing at either of them, your wagers contribute to the progressive jackpot.
  2. These games are hosted at many casinos around the world and played by thousands of players every second.

The Jackpot Wheel occurs randomly; as the Paytable goes – the more you bet, the higher the chances of hitting the Jackpot Feature. You could take home the million or at the very least, you could bag £100++ from the Mini Jackpot. It does occur to a fair handful of players! Imagine being thaaaat close to winning a million pounds.

Performance

The aesthetics are slightly “2006”; after all, it was created that many years ago. It’s like watching The Lion King or the original 1937 Snow White after enjoying the more recent cartoons like Frozen. However, the cartoon animals are lovable. Try and catch the deer winking at you. ;)

The game runs smoothly on mobile and on your PC. It’s no wonder that it has a loyal fan-following over the years and many casinos scrambling to host it.

The Millionaire Maker Legacy

Mega Moolah’s history may be the best thing about this slot. We’re inspired by the stories of past winners and ever hopeful that we could be the next one. Everyone talks of Georgios M from Greece, who bet $5 and won €6.3million, the largest jackpot ever in online slots history. His first words after winning were, predictably, “I cannot believe it.” Then, there’s young Radoslaw M who travelled from Poland to London to collect his €1.2million in 2008, making sure to “go to Harrods for a shopping spree!” Even nice old ladies like Mrs. P have won it.

Conclusion

As much as I would like to win a jackpot, I understand that it is statistically unlikely that I would in my short lifetime. And so, I prefer games that offer nice, small wins. Mega Moolah offers the best of both worlds – the promise of a million dollars as well as the assurance of a many small wins. This delicate balance is extremely addictive indeed.

In fact, we hereby crown Mega Moolah as our August 2018 - Game of the Month. It’s an oldie, but always a goodie.
