Gameplay

IGT’s Sherlock Holmes is a 5 reel, 30 payline slot game. The game is set to attract players of all appetites and budgets. It accepts wagers from as little as 60p to up to £300 per spin. I found Sherlock Holmes to be a medium variance slot, with sizeable wins occurring at an exciting frequency. I noticed that the number of paylines is fixed. The symbols on the reels range from Holmes and Watson, to Watson’s bulldog and iconic props in the movie. The maximum payout is a healthy £5,000!

In the base game, there are Mystery Multipliers that magnify wins by up to 10x. These Mystery Multipliers are triggered after any spin in the base game that does not trigger a bonus feature. In other words, there is never a quiet moment with Sherlock Holmes. These Mystery Multipliers range from 2x to 10x, which is not too shabby at all.

There is also a Teamwork feature, which also triggers randomly during the base game. All Holmes and Watson symbols will combine, thus increasing your possibility of winning. If you’re lucky, you can trigger both the Teamwork and Mystery Multiplier features in a single spin. I’ve had the pleasure of enjoying this once and was heavily rewarded with over 30x my wager.

Features

Features a-plenty! Firstly, there’s the Picker Puzzle. This game is playable when you get 3 scatter symbols on reels 1, 3 and 5. In this game, you’ll search for clues to win cash prizes. The clues would also lead you to one of the two intriguing bonus games.

If you collect three wheels, you’ll come across the next bonus game, which is called The Blackwood Wheel Bonus. You’ll have 10 spins of the wheel, but be careful and avoid Lord Blackwood. He’s a Debbie Downer and deactivates the game. Anyway, as you spin the wheel, you’ll collect points. At the end of the game, the points are added up and you’ll walk away with lots of cash.

If you collect three or four maps, you’ll unlock The Hunt Bonus. You’ll get a map, which shows where Blackwood’s crimes have taken place. If Holmes or Watson’s wild symbols land on these locations, the symbols turn into locked wilds for the entire duration of this mini game. The deal gets sweeter. Winnings are also doubled if they land on all five locations.

Performance

Sherlock Holmes: The Hunt for Blackwood is modelled after the 2009 blockbuster movie starring Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law. All of the symbols are movie stills of the characters, lending a polished grown-up vibe to the entire game. I’ve spotted Mary (Watson’s fiancée) as well as Chief of Police Le Strade too! There are also snippets of the actual movie, which accompanies the fabulous animation. Suffice to say, this slot game brings the movie to life.

Unique Features?

Do not confuse this new slot with Playtech’s 2014 version or Aristocrat’s version either. Yes, there has been multiple iterations of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s famous character. Even the movie world has produced countless versions. The latest slot game by IGT is newer and better. The previous versions feature cartoons and illustrations. IGT’s one has grown-up aesthetics and mini games that are logically woven into the movie storyline.

Conclusion

Sherlock Holmes: The Hunt for Blackwood has a lot going on. Besides its beautiful animation, the game is jam-packed with five very profitable features. Just one word of warning: if you’re anything like me, you may start spending more than you earn. I held on for over 20 minutes, hoping to catch a glimpse of every feature. The multipliers in the base game would not pad your bank balance very much. Thankfully, the feature games are much more profitable and occur relatively often. My verdict? Very entertaining indeed.
